Overview of NITA-U Newsletter Volume 1

The inaugural edition of the Inside NITA-U Newsletter highlights Uganda’s strides in digital transformation under the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U). Key initiatives include:

Uganda Digital Acceleration Project (UDAP-GovNet): Expanding internet access, e-government services, and digital skills in underserved and refugee-hosting communities through regional leadership engagements.

  • Infrastructure Development: Launch of Phase 5 of the National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI), adding 5,845 km of fiber optic cable to enhance connectivity.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaboration with Presight AI to boost cybersecurity and smart governance, and leadership in ethical AI at the Africa AI Summit 2025.
  • Capacity Building: Cybersecurity training for UPDF personnel and onboarding of government agencies to UGPass for secure digital identity.
  • Youth Empowerment: Welcoming the 2025 internship cohort to nurture Uganda’s next-generation tech talent.

The National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U) is the government agency mandated to coordinate, promote and monitor information technology development in Uganda, in line with national social and economic goals. We run the National Backbone Infrastructure, the National Data Centre, UGPass and UGHub, certify IT service providers, and host the Personal Data Protection Office.
