Who we really are

The National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U) is a government agency established by the NITA-U Act of 2009 as an autonomous statutory body. Its mandate is to coordinate, oversee, and regulate the development and delivery of Information Technology services across Uganda. Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, NITA-U plays a central role in shaping the country’s digital transformation agenda and ensuring the effective implementation of national IT policies and standards.

The National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U) is the government agency mandated to coordinate, promote and monitor information technology development in Uganda, in line with national social and economic goals. We run the National Backbone Infrastructure, the National Data Centre, UGPass and UGHub, certify IT service providers, and host the Personal Data Protection Office.

NITA-U coordinates, promotes and monitors information technology development across Government and the wider Ugandan economy. The Service Desk is open Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.
