Kampala, Uganda - Tuesday 05th May, 2026 - The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance and the National Information Technology Authority - Uganda (NITA-U), today announced that Uganda will host the Digital Government Africa (DGA) Summit 2026 from 6th to 8th October 2026 in Kampala.
The prestigious continental event, recognised as Africa’s premier platform for digital government transformation, will convene Ministers, Heads of ICT Authorities, regulators, technology leaders, development partners, and innovators from across the continent and beyond under the theme “Accelerating Africa’s Digital Transformation of Government.”
Speaking at the media briefing, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, described the hosting as a strategic milestone for Uganda and the region.
“Hosting DGA 2026 is both an honour and a strategic opportunity for Uganda, it aligns perfectly with our national priorities under Vision 2040 and NDP IV. Digital transformation is no longer a future ambition but now a foundation of modern, efficient, and citizen centred governance. This summit will allow us to showcase Uganda’s progress while learning from best practices across Africa and forging partnerships that will accelerate our shared digital agenda,” he said.
In his remarks, Dr. Hatwib Mugasa, Executive Director of NITA-U, highlighted Uganda’s growing digital maturity and technical readiness saying, “Recent global assessments show that Uganda continues to make steady progress on key ICT indices. Our GovTech Maturity Index now stands at 0.79, placing us in the Very High Maturity category well above the global average. We also recorded a solid score of 0.45 on the E-Government Development Index in 2024, surpassing both the African and low-income country averages, while improving our Network Readiness Index to 34.29, our best performance to date. These achievements demonstrate that Uganda is emerging as a credible digital player on the continent.”
He added that over the past years, NITA-U has built critical digital public infrastructure, including the expansion of the National Backbone Infrastructure, the deployment of UGHub for secure data integration, the rollout of UGPass for trusted digital identity, and the strengthening of cybersecurity and data protection systems.
“Hosting DGA 2026 gives us the perfect platform to showcase these homegrown solutions while contributing practical ideas to Africa’s digital government agenda,” he noted.
The summit will focus on critical pillars of digital government, including Digital Public Infrastructure, Cybersecurity and Data Governance, Artificial Intelligence for Government, Digital Inclusion, Interoperability, and Secure Digital Payments. It is expected to attract over 1,000 high level participants and create opportunities for policy dialogue, knowledge sharing, investment promotion, and partnership building.
Beyond policy discussions, the event is anticipated to deliver significant economic benefits to Uganda and provide a unique marketplace for Ugandan innovators and startups to engage with regional and international investors.
